Vishu Celebration-The New Year Festival of Kerala

Malayalee people celebrate Vishu (വിഷു) as the New Year Time celebration. The beginning of the month in which this festival is commemorated is referred to as Medam in Malayalam calendar. This day is celebrated in several parts of India with different labels. The customs and traditions are different and unique in each state.
Can be of Medam, Malayalam month or the period between April and May as per the Gregorian diary, is celebrated as Vishu inKerala. This Hindu event considered as the arrival of the astrological Malayali New Year and the harvest festival, symbolizes the movement of sunlight to the MeshaRashi (Aries) and marks the beginning of the spring season. That is the time from which the farmers get started the ploughing of land and other agricultural activities. Vishu literally means identical, and in the celebration context it connotes the completing spring equinox.
